A Russian photojournalist has won an award...

Russian News & Information Agency RIA Novosti’s Vladimir Vyatkin won third place for his photo series featuring international conductors.

His photo series Masters of Music (Dispositions from Piano to Forte) already received an award at the Moscow Silver Camera contest, in the category “Faces.”

The Sony World Photography Awards (SWPA) is a major international photo contest, which features 12 categories within three subject genres: Photojournalism and Documentary (Current Affairs, Sport, Contemporary Issues and Arts and Entertainment); Commercial (Advertising, Fashion and Music) and Fine Art (Portrait, Conceptual and Constructed, Natural History, Landscape and Architecture).

Vyatkin’s photos are on the short list in the documentary category as well.

Every year the Honorary Judging Committee selects an overall winner from twelve professional category winners. This year Italian photographer Tommaso Ausili won the 2010 L’iris
